A little more info on our featured artist:
Dan McClung studied painting and sculpture at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; he won the “Country Gallery Award” for his work in pottery and spent a short time painting commissioned portraits before moving to New York in 1979. His study of art continued and broadened here with his study of Aesthetic Realism, the education founded by poet and educator Eli Siegel. As a result he has written notably on the lives and works of several artists, including Van Gogh, Oldenburg, Lichtenstein and Cristo, and on the important and vital relation, as Aesthetic Realism explains it, of art and life.
Dan studied watercolor and drawing with the late, renowned artist, Chaim Koppelman, and currently studies with watercolorist, Marcia Rackow. Always a photo enthusiast, he began to work seriously in the medium about 13 years ago and started studying in the Critical Inquiry Workshops taught by artist Dorothy Koppelman. He has also studied with photographers Donald Giannatti, Syl Arena, and with Native American photographer, LeRoy DeJolie, on location in the Navajo Nation in Arizona.
Dan’s work has shown in galleries in New York City, including the Atlantic and the Terrain Gallery and in corporate venues. His photograph “Jack Pump and Sunflower” was selected to be part of a permanent installation at the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.
Dan works in marketing and graphic design, and has started his own portraiture business, Mc3 Photography. He lives on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with his wife, Barbara; they have one daughter, Jennifer.
